Wichita fire crews say a fire at an apartment complex is under control. The fire caused $250,000 damage.

Crews were called to Highland Park Square shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Thick smoke could be seen coming from the building. Emergency dispatchers called a third alarm, which brought more firefighters to the scene. Firefighters evacuated the apartments. There were no reports of injuries.

In all, 24 units suffered fire and/or smoke damage. The fire apparently started in the wall of one of the units and is believed to be accidental. The fire caused $200,000 damage to the building, and $50,000 to the contents.

Everyone got out safely. The displaced tenants are at St. Thomas Church at 13th & Woodlawn.

A total of 22 fire vehicles were called to the fire and 60-65 firefighters worked to extinguish it.

PROPS to Highland Square for requiring renters insurance! At least no one was hurt, and everyone will be able to get their things back without a whole lot of hassle!
