Kansas Airmen Deployed to Arizona

July 20 - Fifty Wichita-based airmen with the Kansas National Guard are leaving their families and heading off to Arizona. The airmen are with McConnell's 184th Civil Engineering Squadron. Their mission is to help secure the U.S. border with Mexico.

Though the mission comes on short notice, many knew this type of deployment was on the way. The airmen will be stationed near Yuma, Arizona as a part of Operation Jumpstart. They'll be joining National Guard members from all 50 states who have been deployed to help with border security.

The airmen will not have any type of law enforcement duties along the border. They will work on construction projects like building fences and roads.

The group is set to leave on July 29. The deployment will last two to three weeks.
