Gracia Burnham says she wishes she would've done one thing different, while held hostage.

The Kansas missionary, held hostage in the Philippines for over a year, is doing her first talking to the local media after a national media blitz last week to promote her just released book.

Monday, Gracia talked about her one regret, a regret that she says could have saved Martin's life.

"And probably if I had to do it all over again I would have gotten on the sat phone and I would call home and I would say you guys start getting a ransom together," Gracia said.

Gracia knew about the policy of New Tribes Mission who she and Martin worked for no ransom, but ...

"All of us said paying a ransom is not a good thing, it endangers everyone else, but that's before your taken hostage," said Gracia.

Gracia also said that aside from her husband's death, the lack of privacy was one of the hardest things for her while in captivity.

Gracia and Martin had said their official goodbye several times during the 16 gun battles they lived through, and then came the seventeenth almost a year ago.

"We prayed together and we laid down, and the gunfire just started from the top of the hill, and as they dragged me up the hill, Martin was white, and I knew he was dead, but I had said my goodbye so I don't have any regrets," said Gracia.

Gracia adds, in the end she and Martin were both just praying that they would get out of there, dead or alive. She says Martin may have gotten the better end of the deal -- because he's now in Heaven.
