Derby Police Chief Jay Reyes turned in his resignation October 6. Tuesday night the Derby City Council accepted his resignation at its regular meeting by authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement spelling out the terms and conditions of his separation from City employment.

Key points of the agreement include:

* Severance compensation of $14,796 is provided, which is equivalent
to 400 hours at the regular rate of pay

*Resignation is voluntary. No adverse employment actions were
pending.

*Confidentiality about the facts, circumstances, or opinions surrounding this personnel matter is agreed upon by both parties

*Mr. Reyes waives any current or future claims against the City. The
City disclaims any and all liability to Mr. Reyes.

Deputy Police Chief Doug Chambers has been named the Interim Police
Chief. Routine departmental operations are expected to continue. The
City will soon begin a search for a new Chief, which will include a
public process expected to take four to six months.
