A law enforcement officer has shot and killed a man a standoff in a small town in southeast Nebraska, not far from the Kansas line.

Authorities were called to a home in the community of Blue Springs Saturday night after a neighbor reported an armed man was knocking on his door.

Gage County authorities say negotiators spoke with him into the early morning hours, but came out the house and fired shots shortly after 4 a.m. Officers returned fire, and the man was found dead in the doorway.

No officers were injured. Neither the officer nor his or her law enforcement agency was identified.
