An 11-year-old boy is dead after he was run over in an accident near Dodge City.

Dylan Rhoten was riding in the back of a water truck shortly before 6 p.m. last night at the Western Kansas Dirt Riders' track near Dodge City.

Driver Darren Rhoten, 49, stopped the vehicle and Dylan jumped out, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. But the boy tripped and fell on the way down, while Darren Rhoten backed up and ran over him.

Dylan died from his injuries. Darren Rhoten was not hurt.
