Neighborhood Eyesore

Traci Dumond says her neighbor Joe Schuhs' yard is an eyesore. For years it's been full of what most people consider junk. Dumond says it's bad enough to make her want to sell her home, but she doesn't think she could find a buyer who would want to live next door to such a mess.

Neighbors say Schuhs' garbage has been blowing around the block for years. They say they've tried everything get him to clean up but nothing works. Even Schuhs admits he's violating city orders by not cleaning up. He says he just never gets around to it.

Serious litterbugs can face court troubles and even jail time, but city officials say that hasn't stopped Schuhs. They have been fighting with him for years. They've taken him to court and even had him arrested. City officials say Schuhs is currently facing more court problems because of his mess. They say a judge could sentence him to jail time.

If you have trash problems in your neighborhood, here are some tips that might help:

  • Talk to your neighbor and try to work things out.
  • If that doesn't work, you can report him to the health department.
  • As a last resort, the city can send a crew in to clean things up and then charge the homeowner.
