Executives at any company are always going to get the big pay packages and it never flows down to the workers whether your in a union or not. The Boeing workers on strike say they don't want their jobs out sourced and they want a piece of the pie. The reason the pie is so big is because the savings Boeing made by out sourcing work. If you keep all the work in house there will be no piece of pie to get. Do you get it now? Good, then get back to work. If you want to be a millionaire, start your own business or go to school and get a job as an executive. Working class people never get rich from their jobs.

In these tough economic times, the general public is hardly sympathetic to the outrageous demands put forth by the IAM. The rank and file of the union members is perceived as greediness at its worst. Their strike is not helping the economy of Washington State and is beneficial just as fodder to their avarice. As the unemployment rate of Washington is at 6%, most people are incredulous of the IAM demands. Also, if the workers ask that no more work is off loaded, then step your production and quality of workmanship... Boeing is not known by its' nickname of the "Lazy B" for nothing! The IAM is an altruistic organization, oblivious to its' contribution to the negative impact on Washington State as a whole. Boeing workers are getting above and beyond what their worth. Wake up IAM members before your union affiliation strikes you right out of a job!

I understand that the Machinist @ Boeing are fighting for their rights, but I do not think that the corporate headquarters @ Boeing understand how many other businesses they are hurting drastically by not trying to comunicate w/ the Machinist Union. There are businesses all over the state of Kansas that could in a sense "go under" if Boeing does not get this issue resolved. Please send this off to Boeing as a plea to help the "Economy" and resolve this issue w/ peaceful talks that can favor both sides.

According to Boeing documents, labor costs account for 15% of the total cost of any particular plane. Raw materials and resources account for 25%, and overhead (i.g. executive compensation)accounts for 60%. In 2007, the average exec package was worth 14.2 million and exec packages have increased 20.5% while revenue has only increased 2.8%. Corporations offshore to reduce labor costs yes, but so they don't have to cut Exec benefit packages, and still make shareholders happy. In Mexico minimum wage is 4.90 PER DAY, in India average is $145 per month.Globalization has worked real well, China has stated it will be producing its own commercial jet by 2012 using knowledge from Boeing's offshoring. And US companies are already pulling back because China's workers are demanding fair compensation.

I find all the complaints about Boeing strikers ludacris! You people don't have a clue.It took my husband 23 yrs to get where he is at boeing and the physical labor has just about destroyed his shoulders and yet he NEVER complains. All the employees are asking for is what was taken away from them when it was boeing who always promised these benefits for their loyaty & hard work-which boeing got in spades! The workers NEVER asked for raises even though they haven't had a raise in 3 contracts!(Thats 10 yrs). How come I hear no one screamin about the bellvue teachers strike when they are the highest paid in the state-52,000 a year for only working 9 months not counting all the other days off they get.In fact Wash teachers are in the top 10 wage earners in the country!the average Boeing worker earns around 56,00 a yr-physical labor and thats after yrs of working there,so put that in you're sour grapes pipe and smoke it!

I work at Spirit and we all are hurting out here, but I think that we are helping Boeing get what they need and deserve for there families. I know that when our contract is up in 2010 they would do the same for us. Although we are hurting on our shop floor we are all Brothers and Sisters and need to help eachother out. Do what you need to do Boeing!

Anonomyous, how many "union leaders" are there? locally, that is. how many over paid "managers" spirit has made quite a few milionairs of hi level managers through stock deals and bonuses. so has boeing. the management to worker ratio here is incredible, you want to compare that with how many "union leaders"?

Thank you Cliff, for making a very important point! "go back to the old days when the companies..." Labor unions played a very important role in shaping the working conditions of our great country. But honestly, what have they done for you lately? If I am going to pay "dues" to an organization, I expect to see something in return, and not just during a strike. You criticize managers for exorbitant pay, but what about the union leaders? How hard do they truly work for the hundreds of thounsands of dollars they take home in "salary"? Are they any different or better than the managers and executives taking home large salaries?

if u cry babys dont like your jobs find another. u guys are lazy

Anonomous, the reason I think salaried pwople were involved is the timing of a lot of the remarks during the hbc strike, if you check the time, they were posted realy soon in response to any pro union remarks. possibly we should go back to the old days when the companies used to bring in private army's to beat and shoot strikers? the post I was refering to the guy said he makes over 1000 per week, thats a lot for hourly workers, just a drop in the bucket for management.

I just want to make sure that people realize that 3500 of the Boeing machinist make less then $15 an hour. The majority of which are in the Seattle metro area, which had, as of last year a median home price over $400K and the highest inflation rate in the nation. Think about the executive's pay, The top ten make over a hundred million a year! Shouldn't we be discussing why they should tighten their belts!

Maria: While I sympathize with your situation, you stated one of the problems with the company. Your husband works for a company that Boeing uses for outsourcing. That is one of the reasons for the strike. I would have more sympathy for you if your husband lost his job from Boeing because it was outsourced to someone else. But since he is part of the problem there is no sympathy. And one picketer on the line is probably because there aren't as many workers in Wichita as Seattle. People have been working other jobs and taking care of their families. Whether you believe they are taking care of their families is your problem.

think about all the ppl this will effect please boeing workers. A boeing strike lasting 60 days, lays off ALOT of ppl that need the jobs. Just think...

Cliff - why do you assume that anyone that does not support the union is a manager or salaried employee? I remember all your snide remarks about the matter from the HBC strike. Do you not realize that union membership has declined sharply over the last decade? Do you not realize that fewer and fewer people are willing to give up their hard earned money to line the pockets of overpaid union leaders? There are some hourly people smart enough to realize that labor unions are outdated, and that there is really nothing they can do for you. I know you think you know everything under the sun, but you need to remember there are always other viewpoints and opinions. As adults, most of us learn to disagree with others while still respecting their opinions.

Maybe all the Boeing workers on strike will be thrilled when they lose their jobs to immigrants from Mexico that will work for about a fourth of what the current workers are getting. These people that keep going on strike for more money would deserve to just strike themselves out of jobs that are the best deal in town.
