If you want to find the top tourist spot in Kansas, you'll have to go shopping. The state reports Cabela's outdoor store in Kansas City became Kansas' top tourist attraction last year. 2.4 million people stopped in the store.
Wichita developers believe a similar thing can happen here if the city lures a Bass Pro shop. Developers want the Bass Pro shop to be part of the Water Walk project downtown. They believe Cabela's success only helps their cause. "If you look at the economic impact of new people coming into just that store to go to the store it certainly helps bolster the argument," said Ed Wolverton.
The Sedgwick County Zoo ranks as the top tourist attraction in the Wichita area. It's followed by Exploration place, and the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson.
