Man Wanted In Connection With Amber Alert Found Dead

May 23-- A man thought to have been heading to the
Wichita area with a missing three-year-old girl is found dead in
his home state of North Dakota.

But there's no sign yet of Reachelle Smith, who's the subject of
an Amber Alert. The girl disappeared last Tuesday from a home in
Minot, North Dakota.

Minot Police Captain Al Hanson says the body of 22-year-old
Leigh Cowen -- who had falsely claimed to the child's father -- was
found in a van by a lake this afternoon. An autopsy is pending, but
suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning was suspected.

Cowen had claimed the girl had been staying with his mother. But
police said his mother had moved to Derby, Kansas, within the past
few days.
