A Wichita school bus driver is under investigation for his alleged action with a Mayberry Middle School student. The girl reported to her school resource officer that the driver changed his route so she would be the last one dropped off. The girl also said the driver commented on how he liked her short shorts.

A letter went home to Mayberry parents saying the case is under investigation and the driver will no longer serve the school.

Here is the letter that was sent out by the district:

September 3, 2008

Dear Mayberry parents and guardians:

The safety of our students and staff is our main concern here at Mayberry. Upon arrival at school today, a student informed administration about inappropriate comments involving the student and a bus driver. Based on the nature of the incident, Mayberry administration immediately notified Durham School Services, USD 259 Security, and the Wichita Police Department to investigate.

We are continuing to investigate the situation. Proper administrative action will be taken. Regardless, the bus driver will no longer be driving for our school.

I want you to be aware and we take these matters very seriously. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 973-5800.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tim Seguine
Principal

This person has brought this upon themself and their own family. The child did what she had to do and that is that. The tapes have shown the truth and this will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law to ensure that no one else's child has to endure this type of mental anguish. The child is ok for those who care and for the rest of you... Get a life and look outside the box there r over 1,000 reported sex offenders in the area. He may not be one at this time but watch for his name in the future it may be your child next! Someone needs to get this guy some help before he actually hurts someones child for real next time. I hope his family can see at least that much!! An apology is not enough for an attempted ABDUCTION!!!

As an employee of Durham School Services I find it disturbing that Kake would not first contact Durham to get any infomation before reporting such a story. You not only did an injustice to the this man and his family you did an injustice to the rest of the company. Durham does a full background check of all employees and requires fingerprinting to prevent such things from happening. You also failed to report that this persons video from the bus was viewed and it was found that no such thing happened. When will people learn that saying things of this nature are hurtful and ruin lives of all those invovled. People have jumped the gun have caused damage that can never be fixed. I hope that this little girl gets the help she needs and starts telling the truth! (Editors note: Our phone calls to Durham management have not been returned.)

First of all I work for Durham, I've been there for 3yrs. I have seen people fired, because of a child sayin something was said/happening. Then after reviewing tapes, we find out that NOTHING happen. But you all want to jump off the deep end, that all of us drivers are bad people. Get a clue with life. I have kids get on my bus every day, and I think to my self "Where The Hell is The PARENTS". You let your children dress like they should be on South Broadway. But you think everyone should stay quite!!! I'm in no way saying that this driver should not get in trouble, with the law and be fired form his job IF, this really did happen!! And Yes I am glad that this child was smart enought to get help... But just because she's in sports, Makeing the grade that really means NOTHING. LET'S SEE THE TAPE FIRST. If this person should be fired then I can tell you for a fact, our GM will take care of this driver..

All parents should insist that all schools should go to uniforms. This would put a stop to a lot of nonsense. All bus drivers should have a complete background check. AND I DO MEAN COMPLETE!! Also check out the girl--does she have a habit of making things up just to get attention. We all know that this sometimes happens and then someones life is ruined. If this did indeed happen then I commend the girl for telling someone, if it did not happen then shame on her. Also parents should see to it that their children are dressed properly. I've seen the way some of these kids dress and it is a shame-take a look around you and it's not only the girls it is also some of the boys. PARENTS GET CONTROL OF YOUR CHILDREN!!!

so what do u say to the fact that the bus driver went back to the home of the accusor and gave them an apology letter after hours of business!!! Is he a true stalker? This is totally out of line and uncalled for! I think criminal charges should be brought against him. These people don't know him from Adam and he goes to the house even after the child was so afaid that she HAD to tell!! Where will he show up next!!! At a school event!! Someone needs to have this man checked for mental issues!! Now that shows that he knows he did something wrong! If just showing up at the home after the fact! Get it right people this guy is a perv!! Watch your children!

WOW you people are on a witch hunt! Nothing has been factual it has been a accusation the tapes have not even been viewed! talk about jumping the gun! You are all pointing fingers and not one of you fools even know what happened shame on all of you and how stupid will the majority of you feel when the truth comes out! Shame on the media and shame on you what happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I am appauled at the way that you Kansans r crusifying this child for doing the right thing. We teach our kids not to put up with this type of mental/verbal abuse from any adult and if they feel wronged to do the right thing and tell an adult. This girl is an honor roll student, track runner, and oldest sister of three girls. HELL NO! She is not looking for any attention from any MAN or boy. The shorts she wears r standard shorts for the track team. She has a father who is active in her life and cares fully about her attire. For an adult man to comment on anything that a child has on or is wearing is wrong. There is no way around it! For anyone to comment on the fact that she could be lying is ludacris! Would u ever 2nd guess your child! Lord forbid that this man is driving another route. This could've been a rape and murder. However it would've been too late! I commend her for doing the right thing and telling. This will show the rest of the kids around her they dont have to take this.

The driver is no longer driving for mayberry but is still driving for usd 259 he could be driving for your middle school aged daughter next week the bus compnay will do nothing but switch him around routes it would proably take a child raped or beaten to death by a driver to get one fired the bus company doesn't care about your kids silly and the school says the bus company is responsible

FIRST OF ALL I HAVE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW SHORT THIER SHORTS ARE{WHICH MY KIDS' ARE NOT}A GROWN MAN SHOULD NEVER COMMENT TO A MINOR ABOUT THEM SECOND OF ALL THE COMMENTS POSTED HERE SHOULD BE PRAISEING THE CHILD FOR SAYING SOMETHING NOT ACCUSEING HER OF LYEING AND MAYBE LESS CHILDREN WOULD BE GETTING MOLESTED IN U.S TODAY ANY BEHAVIOR OTHER THAN THE EXACT ROUTE ,A HELLO ,A GOODBYE, AND A DOOR OPENING IS WRONG. IF THE MAN DOESN'T KNOW THAT THAN THAT IS NOT A MAN I WANT DRIVEING MY CHILDREN HOME AND SHOULD PROBALLY NOT BE ALONE WITH A CHILD IT SEEMS REAL SIMPLE TO ME!!!!!

My mom and sister are bus drivers. Drivers are not allowed to change the route, and it makes you wonder why he did. Did he do it to save time, or did he do it to be alone with the girl? Is she lying about the comment and the route change? Did they consult the other students on the bus, or the video tapes on the bus? We don't know because this story is not that clear. The adult is liable and the girl is liable. You are all jumping to conclusions without all the facts.

Although it was inappropriate for the driver to make ANY comment to the girl, if her shorts were really that short she was obviosly looking for some kind of attention to notice her. Her parents need to make sure their child is properly dressed, theres more perves out there looking for kids like these that arent bus drivers.

All school busses now have video cameras with audio on them. Makes for a very short investigation. I wonder why Kake has not posted an update on this. And why everyone assumes the driver is in the wrong before any investigation confuses me. learn the facts before you go trying to ruin someones life.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: wichita on Sep 5, 2008 at 09:33 AM
First of all the drivers are not allowed to change the routes with out district approval if so they can get fired. All they have to do is watch the camera in the bus and it will tell them. Second that is like them to hire people that don't care about the safety of our children, but remember the district don't hire them, it's contracted out. The ones that care are the ones they let go.

Does it say that her shorts were very short? NO it does not so how would you know and how could you make such a comment. My guess is for him to make the comment that he did they may have been short but we don't know that for sure and we as people should not go around assuming and making accuastions to the student involved. A grown man should not perv on a young girl. Thankfully, she had the courage to tell an adult. I am sure cases like this happen quite often but yet the victim is afraid to tell. I commend this girl for telling her SRO. Just think of what could have happened if she never would have spoke up. I hope that one day if this was to ever happens to my child he/she will have the courage to tell someone.

what if shes the one lying about the comment just because she's mad she got dropped off last?

Posted by: DD Location: wichita on Sep 5, 2008 at 05:50 AM
Wacko Jacko driving a bus these days?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 5, 2008 at 05:20 AM
The short shorts aren't the point, there was no reason for the comment and taken with the change so that she would be the last off would be a big concern with me. I can see though where a uniform dress code might help with the exposure maybe getting out of hand.

So based on a girls word alone a person is fired, not suspended but fired before an investigation is complete?? What kind of message does that send to any girl that doesn't like a certain bus driver or any other employee?? Where's this world going?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:56 PM
Yes, maybe she had short shorts on. But nothing makes behavior like this acceptable.

Posted by: me on Sep 4, 2008 at 08:15 PM
at least she told someone!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on Sep 4, 2008 at 07:53 PM
What was she doing going to school in the first place with shorts on that would draw that kind of comment. Do her parents not have any control over or care about what she wears to school? If not why should they care if somebody notices.
