In her Wednesday night speech, Palin said, "I guess a small town mayor is like a community organizer, except you have actual responsibilities." Western Kansas community organizers and mayors talked about Palin's statement.

What best describes your reaction to Sarah Palin's speech at the RNC?
She did a great job selling her qualifications and John McCain's beliefs to the public.
She took too many jabs at Barack Obama
I didn't watch

Residents of Leoti know when a big community event will be held. Marcia Mehl is usually one of the main organizers behind these events. As a community organizer, Mehl says she agrees with Palin's statement, that mayors do have more responsibility.

"I absolutely loved her. I like everything about her," Mehl said.

Lakin Mayor, Troy Michels, also agrees with Palin. As a mayor in a small town, he says he does have more responsibilities, but also says his job is no more important than Marcia Mehl's.

"In a small community you need those people just as much as you need a mayor," Michels said.

In response to being asked if he could picture himself as a Vice Presidential nominee, Michels laughed and said that would be a huge step.

SHELLY GOV. PALIN DOESNT SAY HER CHOICE IS THE ONLY CHOICE. IF YOU WATCH HER INTERVIEWS AND SEE HER TALK THAT IS HER BELIEFE. JOHN MCCAIN WANTS IT TO BE THE PEOPLES CHOICE ON WHO INTERPRITES THE LAW NOT THE GOVERNMENT. THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT PEOPLE DONT SEE, THERE TO BUSY VOTING FOR JUST THEIR PARTY. MICHELLE OBAMA IS JUST NOW PROUD OF HER COUNTRY. DOESNT THAT SCARE YOU. I THINK I WOULD WANT SOMEONE IN THEIR THAT HAS BEEN AROUND THE BLOCK(OLD) THIS IS A VERY SCARY TIME IN THE WORLD. IN HIS INTERVIEW ON THE VIEW HE SAID HE PUT ALL PARTYS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND GET THIS USA ON THE WRITE TRACK TO BECOME WHAT WE CAN BE. A COUNTRY OF THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE.

I'm glad y'all like our Sarah. We like her a whole lot up here in Alaska. She takes the bull by the horns and gets things done. She doesn't waste a lot of time. She sizes things up and makes decisions then gets on with the next task. Most politicians have to form their commities, study issues for 5 years, twiddle their thumbs for another 5 years and then decided to think on it a bit more! Not our Sarah. She gets things done fast!

This woman scares the heck out of me. She is against a woman's choice no ifs, ands or buts. Good for her to keep her down's baby, but don't say that her choice is the only choice. She also made sure that every single resident in alaska gets a $2000 a year check/kickback from big oil. and that there is a $1200 bonus each year too for every man, woman and child. She was a mayor for a very small town and govenor for less than 2 years and she is more qualified than obama? are you kidding me? I hope that hillary supporters do not fall for this by voting for mccain and palin. Go Obama!!!!!!!!!!!

Amy, I hope you or no one in your family gets really ill and has to spend alot of time in the hospital. Depending on how long you stay it could be 50,000 to 400,00 dollars you then owe. Perhaps you can afford that, most cannot. This health care system works great, as long as its other people who have the problem. Cliff how are any of them qualified? My problem with politicans is that most of them are very rich, and most of us are average or poor. How can someone with a million bucks in the bank relate. Do they care about gas prices, food prices, housing, health care. It does not effect them, they are rich! The guy has 7 houses! You think he gives a rip or could relate to normal people. Its time we americans use our rights as citizens and oust all these politicians. Our government these days reminds me of England. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer or stay the same. the rich have the power. That is exactly why we ran from there and came to form the United States. Watch John Adams!!

cindy, if she is underqualified for vice president, how is Obama qualified for president?

Posted by: DM Location: Arkansas City on Sep 5, 2008 at 08:16 AM
She made the biggest impression on me of all the canidates. She's done a lot of good in Alaska and hopefully she and McCain can turn the mess we're in around.

Posted by: Cindy on Sep 5, 2008 at 07:45 AM
If this is the most qualified person the GOP has then who will you run in 2012? a homeless person. Which maybe all of the middle class by then.

Posted by: Tony Location: Wichita on Sep 5, 2008 at 07:16 AM
oh come on, why not give a pole with some better choices. I think she did a great job of selling the fact she and McCain are the wrong choice for moving our country forward.

Hey, ladies! Look! A uterus! Vote McCain! I'm scared how many will fall for it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 5, 2008 at 02:02 AM
lol she did well i guess for someone who was handed her speech only a few days before she spoke. It's hard to have passion in something when it is not even your own words.McCain will feed you anything you want to hear. Bush was elected twice so I have lost all hope in getting any change. McCain will do everything that Bush has done.

I raise 3 cildren by myself. How many of you as parents have children that have not got in some sort of trouble. DID YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON YOUR CHILD??????????????

Hey Tom - news flash...health care is not the Government's responsibility. If you want to be attached to a nipple, go find one. For those of us who prefer the free market - we'll take care of ourselves, thanks. Health care is so ridiculously expensive because of people who vote on the Democratic ticket - people who want to expand the government to ridiculous levels and over regulate every move the health care industry can make. It's time to cut ties and let the free market take care of itself. The free market already started proving itself with $4 prescriptions at Wal Mart. You would see a lot more of that if the government would step back.

I thought Palin did an excellent job. However, looking at the big picture should, heaven forbid, the VP comes to office, I'd have to take Biden over her!

Posted by: confused on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:58 PM
I don't recall hearing the Dems stat what they would do to turn things around. But yet you expect the Repubs too?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:47 PM
Her speech was boring, she had no passion, she spoke only of how great she and her family are, and nothing about what needs to be done to improve upon our nation. A pretty pathetic candidate, VP prospect, and speech all around. A far better woman or man could have been chosen. But, better for the Democrats!!! I would love to see Biden debate against her, I don;t think she could hold her own!!

McCain accuses Obama of making decisions based strictly on winning an election. I find that odd with a VP nominee who was vetted very quickly. Palin gave a very good speech and I see the appeal. I liked her, but I thought part of her speech sounded like George W's speech writers. Does she really think that what Obama did after completing law school, with loans to pay back was not noble? Does she really think that only John McCain has suffered? Didn't Joe Biden bury a wife and child? Could there be anything worse? McCain is now using Change as his platform, he is going after women voters when he could not have his first pick for VP, he copies ads and when his campaign creates advertising that is beneath him, he will reply that Obama needs to have a sense of humor. I do not see McCains sense of humor, but I do see a quick decision. Was it the right one? I think that Sarah Palin is a great speaker and has great potential. However, how can McCain steal the change line and run?

She showed wit and strength. It wasn't her job to state policy, but to show she can handle the job. She did a great job and I look forward to hearing more from her.

What I didn't hear a single new idea about how to make the healthcare system work, get our economy moving for the middle class, or improve education. Just attacks on Obama

Posted by: Roberta Location: Augusta on Sep 4, 2008 at 05:46 PM
Gov. Palin's speech was wonderful. The Dem's probably didn't like it to well because it show their canidate as a light weight that he is.

Posted by: R Location: Wichita on Sep 4, 2008 at 05:45 PM
Its sad to think she might be president if something happens to the president. To me there were better qualified people out there to do the job but if you were just trying to make history like the democrats, then I would have chosen her also. I know one thing, that this republican economy SUCKS!! I don't know of anyone, but these republicans, that thinks that economy is good. The only reason that tells them that something is not right is because their PROFITS are not as expected. The gasprices or food costs don't matter because they don't worry about money. So while she's been WAY up there in Alaska, we've been working and buying gas while she's been hunting for Carabu and Moose. Maybe now wouldn't be good time for her to take on a bigger job since her daughter is out getting knocked up. There would be even more history made if the father is black!!

She rocked that speech!!!!!

She did not address issues voters care about. She made unwarranted attacks on Obama and many of her comments were not based on facts. Otherwise she made a good appearance.
