Detectives said it apparently started out as an Internet romance, but it ended with a local woman unknowingly accepting stolen goods from her online boyfriend.

"It's frustrating, it's very frustrating," said Jananna Castillo, a victim of a recent Internet scam.

Castillo was about three months into an on line relationship when her Internet boyfriend, claiming to be a Florida businessman out of the country, started shipping boxes to her.

"He said just hang on to them and I'll get a hold of someone who wants to buy them," said Castillo.

What she didn't know was those boxes, 26 of them, contained $23,000 worth of stolen computer components. Boxes Castillo's boyfriend wanted her to ship for him.

"That's when I got the note from the detectives saying it was stolen goods," said Castillo.

Detectives said earlier this week that they received a call from an Arizona company saying 11 days ago they had shipped the goods to Wichita. The company then realized fraudulent shipping invoices were used. Authorities soon found an Indiana and Georgia company had also fallen victim to those invoices.

"To discover $23,000 in computer components, units, that's a pretty big recovery," said Wichita Police Lt. Rusty Leeds.

Detectives believe the man placing these orders, claiming to be from Florida, may actually be in Africa.

"Global victimization is a reality in this day in age," said Leeds.

"I trusted him and he broke my heart," said Castillo.

Officers said Castillo likely won't face charges. They believe she's a victim who fell for an all too common Internet scam. They want everyone to take note.

"It's not a secure place to do business unless you do your homework in advance," said Leeds.

As for Castillo, she said she's glad detectives are looking for the man and hope others learn from her mistake.

You got to watch those Nigerian suckers, there isn't one of them you can trust any farther than you can throw them. Too bad they can't figure out how to make an honest living. Their other scam is to send you a fake check for about $5000, ask you to cash it and send them about $2000 as a money order to pay the taxes on your lottery winnings. You cash the check and you're on the hook for the $5000.
