Cat Found Beaten and Bound

May 3 - Another shocking case of animal cruelty is discovered in Wichita. A house cat was found dead near the intersection of Harry and Emporia. It had been severely beaten and bound with duct tape.

Dawn Young says she can't understand why anyone would do such a thing. She and two other women made the horrifying discovery Wednesday morning.

Animal control picked up the cat and are holding its body while an investigation takes place. So far, there are no suspects. Wichita Environmental Services spokesperson Kay Johnson says it could be hard to find the people responsible because there were witnesses to the crime.

A few weeks ago, Kansas lawmakers passed a tougher animal cruelty law called Scruffy's Law. The new bill doesn't go into effect until July. That means if the person who tortured the cat is found, he or she will only face misdemeanor charges.

The case is under investigation. Those with information about what happened to the cat are asked to call Wichita Animal Control at 316-268-8378.
