Two teenagers accused of mutilating and killing several birds at the David Traylor Zoo in Emporia have entered formal no contest pleas in court. The third boy involved reportedly may also enter a similar plea in the coming weeks.

Angel Rodriguez, 13, and Andrew Rodriguez, 11, entered the pleas Thursday morning to four counts of cruelty to animals and trespassing. The Lyon County Attorney dropped an additional charge of criminal damage. Sentencing is scheduled for October 2nd at 9:00 a.m.

The third boy allegedly involved in the case, 11 year-old Hernan Hernandez, has entered a not guilty plea.

their parents should have to pay for damage and birds. then the parents should have to go to class to help them teach their kids to act human.

Shouldn't have dropped any charges. They should face all of it. Didn't seem to bother them when they were killing the animals. You can't tell me now they are all emotional and feeling bad, I just don't believe it.
