Wichita Police are investigating a case of a striking Hawker Beechcraft worker who was injured on the picket line.

Police said the striking worker suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car yesterday. No charges were filed against the driver.

The incident happened the same day a striking worker in Salina was hit by a car and suffered a broken arm. The driver, also a Hawker Beechcraft employee, was arrested for battery.

The strike is in its second week.

Once again we live in a society where people express their opinions without the facts. A driver was trying to go to work, waited the alloted time and was waved on by security. Slowly moving in the gate, a picketer intentionally fell into the car and fell on the ground. "call 911" someone yelled. give me a break. sounds like a fake to me! Someone trying to get a free ride on someone elses insurance. It should make the union members angry because situations like this give all of you a bad name. Like some of the comments below-KS is a right to work state. Those workers have their rights also. Respect them and they will respect you. Do stupid things like this and you loose that respect.

Anonymous -- if you live in Wichita, and don't know how to get in touch with Cessna to give them your application, that pretty definitively counters all of those pro-union postings telling us how smart and knowledgeable you all are. No wonder you buy the union's misinformation.

Someone tell me where to go to apply for Cessna!!!!My bosses keep telling me that HBC is not Cessna, and I believe them!!! I would like to have a good job too!!!

I wish all of you bad mouthing the strikers at Hawker Beechcraft would have to spend one day working in the atmosphere the new "management team" has created. It is worse than you can imagine!!!It is hard to throw away years and years of hard work, just because the new owners are clueless, and treat us terrible.-------Bring back Raytheon, if you cant do any better than this!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 15, 2008 at 10:45 PM
All of these lazy people, bad mouthing us for standing up 4 what we believe in should try working 19 days in a row, 10 hours a day. A killer for a single parent!!! So go ahead get off your lazy ___________ and apply. They will hire anyone, maybe you could be one of the lucky ones!!!!

Let's get the "hit and run" stories straight!!! 1st off -- the striker in Salina did not break an arm---according to the follow-up newspaper story.... bruises. 2ndly -- the striker hit in Wichita actually intentionally brushed the car as it drove off. The driver never heard, felt or saw anything. Per the eye witnesses and video it shows that the striker intentionally brushed the car after it was moving, looked around and then fell to the ground. FAKER!!! The lengths so-called intelligent people will go to.

It seems that hourly workers on strike are getting text messages and calls from managers asking them if they want to cross and if they need a ride. If business is going so well in there, why would they be trying to CALL people in and texting them to offer rides? Just a little question from a striker....

Posted by: C. on Aug 14, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Todd, I quess you can live with telling lies! I was there and know what really happened. If the strikers would obey the injunction then this wouldn't happen. If you want to ride the line then you ought to be careful.

I did look at the companies side of it. they didn't show all the takeaways on their side. If you didn't know those things were in there then you sure as hell didn't know they were being taken away. So make sure you read BOTH sides, not just one. ROCK ON!!! ONE DAY LONGER!!!

Posted by: Standing Proud on Aug 13, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Only 90 %, that sure sounds good. Still standing proud with all my savings! The majority of that 90% are older and wiser with their money! If you want to look at the true contract go to the LL733 web site.Oh, that company proposal you noted below is the same proposal that was the best in 20 years. Laying off 25% of any department every 6 months, that you never seen on the company's side of the proposal was the true HBC in action. Compare the two, its really not that difficult to read and comprehend a simple contract. After all you are trusting our expertise to build a quality airplane to transport you and your loved ones safely. Believe it or not we can read!

Keita - You go!!! The Union needs to remember that KS is A "Right-To-Work" State whether the Local likes it or not. There are hot tempers on both sides and it needs to STOP. The Union has approx. 3500 members @ HBC-Wichita and only 90% of those voted to strike. Since KS is a rtw state they can't force anyone to strike so instead they use intimidation and harassment to force others to join their strike. That is not adult behavior and if it would stop maybe more people would take the time to check the issues for themselves and be more sympathetic toward the cause. Go on HBC web site and read it for yourselves then decide. Oh well, this is probably going to fall on deaf ears. SIGH!!!

You truly are a dumb bunny.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 13, 2008 at 03:42 PM
The picketers count on the fact that the cars will stop. If a car stops and waits, they wait until the car starts rolling again before stepping out in front of it. I have seen this happen. Security is telling the crossers that if there is an opening - don't stop to wait for the picketers to block your path. They didn't intentionally plow the strikers down. If they did, the damage would have been much more significant than a broken arm. The strikers act like they have been wronged by the crossers. If you look at it rationally, strikers are the agressors. The crossers have not tried to prevent the stikers from performing their chosen path, but the strikers are physically and very emotionally making every effort to prevent others from going to or leaving work.

What about saving the company money on insurance. The company doesnt like that !!!What about seeing your family the company doesnt like that!!! What about giving new hires the same respect after being there for 20 yrs. the company doesnt like that!!! IF THEY DID NEGOTIATIONS WOULD BE GOING ON!!!! George lies all the time to employees. When asked ? his reply is Hammond will look into it and at next meeting we will get back to you. Still waiting!!! June has came and went!!! thats when he said he would have answers.

"oh mommy, that big bad striker yelled at me" "thats ok, go ahead and run over them." so far, hbc injured 2 strikers, strikers have hurt nobody. whose the anamals?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 13, 2008 at 10:54 AM
I find it hard to believe that "a HBC Manager" would publicly post negative comments about the company - probably from a company computer. If you truly are a manager there - shame on you! Don't expect to have your job much longer. And if you really feel that you work for a company that "has no problem lying", you should quit and find another company. Guilty by association.

Posted by: cliff Location: wichita on Aug 13, 2008 at 10:22 AM
the strikers do have a right to be there blocking trafic. there is an injunction form a judge that says how long they can delay people getting in. someone got yelled at or delayed on the way to work, that seems like a real good reason to try to hit someone with a car. whe wpd was there to protect hbc form the strikers, why didnt they do anything about someone hitting a picketer? selective blindness or something?

Posted by: Happy to Work Location: Wichita on Aug 13, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Strikers should have learned from their mommy's that playing in the street is dangerous. If you don't want to work you need to at least get out of the way of those that do want to work. Workers - you do still need to watch out for the slow moving speed bumps, and hopefully this will all be over soon.

Posted by: Alex Location: Wichita, KS on Aug 13, 2008 at 09:06 AM
I think it is ironic that the people on strike expect all of this respect and sympathy for the situation they voted to be in but yet can't respect the ones that still go to work. Don't get me wrong it isn't right to hit any of them with a car but on the same note it isn't right for them to stand in the way of those that are trying to support their families and just go to work. If they want respect they should be willing to give the same respect and that doesn't include standing in the way of those that are trying to go to work. On top of that it isn't only those that work at Hawker that are harrassed, there are outside companies (that are not union) that do business with Hawker and are under contract to pick up/deliver material and regardless of whether or not they support the strike they have to enter the property and these strikers continue to harass and attempt to prevent these individuals from doing their job!

The strikers have the ritht to picket, but it does not mean they have the right to block the entrance for those that are not picketing<

I was there when he was hit by the raised jeep. The two that are allowed to walk the line had no chance to get out of the way. The one was knocked back a good 10 feet. The jeep just kept going. He was charged with aggrivated battery. After being bailed out he returned to work the next day. The company let him go back to work. This guy told people that he was going to hit anyone who was in his way before we even went on strike. If you were not there do not speculate and comment on something that you have no idea of. If anything, this made us even stronger.

Right to work state guys, let them do their thing to strike, and we will do ours by coming in and keeping our jobs..some of us do not have a choice,we have too come in or lose our jobs..i am not hourly but in this economy,i would of thought twice about not having a paycheck coming in..i can however see why people were unhappy with what the company was wanting to do.. the 12 hr work days and not having a work week from monday thru whatever would suck, who wants to come into work in the middle of the week..and have it change from week to week.. you can't plan on doing anything with your family, so i can be on the strikers side where that is concerned... but my goodness anyone with a family really needs to think long and hard if its all gonna be worth it... not everyone can afford to be out there, even if its something they truly believe in..

Posted by: union member on Aug 13, 2008 at 07:33 AM
My only wish is that the scabs wouldn't get the raise, and only the strikers get the benefit of the strike. It's easy to stay at work and complain about the people who will get you a better contract. I don't understand anybody whose conscience is so guilty they get on here and complain about union members.

Posted by: Scab Supporter Location: Little Rock on Aug 13, 2008 at 07:23 AM
I have been following the negotiations since before the strike. I work for HBC in Little Rock. I have read the entire contract offer. The contract was a good contract, better then the last one offered by Raytheon, that the Union told everyone to accecpt. Why accept that one, but not this one? Greed! Pay attention to what the union leaders are doing, making a name for themselves. Strike at Hawker, strike at Boeing, etc. They want to make the news. Stop being their puppets. READ the entire contract, think about it and then decide whether to continue striking or go back to work. But if you do continue to strike, be a little more thoughtful about what those crossing are going through and maybe they won't try to bump people out of their way.

Posted by: a HBC Manager on Aug 13, 2008 at 07:20 AM
You people ought to do what I do. Go to work a little early and take your time going through the gate so that you don't run over someone. Besides, there's nothing going on in the plants. We work for a company that has no problem lying. Hang in there strikers, HBC can't go on like this much longer.

Posted by: cliff Location: wichita on Aug 13, 2008 at 07:17 AM
someone hit a striker with a car andidiots are cheering. also the wpd is "investigating" I suppose you think hitting someone with a car is ok? who has right of way? is your job so important to you that you will hit someone who is not hurting you with a car? my wife is out there picketing, if someone hits her, there will be no "investigating" needed.

Posted by: antiunion on Aug 13, 2008 at 05:19 AM
Well, a union is nothing but a CULT. It will tell the members what to believe in and what to do and they will follow. Maybe they will commit mass suicide next if they dont get the contract they want. STAY STRONG HBC! Then you can hire people who want to work and not whine and cry about getting paid over $20/hr and good benefits. BTW - I DO WORK AT HBC AND CONDITIONS ARE FAR FROM HORRIBLE. IT IS UNION PROPAGANDA TO GET SYMPATHY FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC. And with these picketers getting hit...these people are even bringing their kids to the picket line. IMO, that is child endangerment and they should have SRS called on them.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 13, 2008 at 04:28 AM
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people are glad that a person got hit. However remember that it is a crosswalk. The last I knew of a person in a crosswalk has the right of way. I'm sorry if 10 seconds of your valuable time is more important and you feel the need to hit them to show them a lesson. I also hope that your insurance company feels the same way and the lawyers have a field day. What is next? The kid in the school crosswlk is taking too long to get through so you'll clip them to show them a lesson? Everybody needs to calm down. The ones that are going in also need to remember that when this is over you will have to be working with these people also.

Is this what our country has come too? is this really how the human race feels about one another? It's sickening. How can people say that its good that another person gets hit by a car for any reason. What if it was you, what if it was one of your relatives? You wouldn't be laughing and saying good, would you? It's just dispicable. Human values have dropped. I am a fellow striker and we are out there standing up for what we believe in, there are people crossing because that's what they have to do. But crossing or not crossing that line, we all have things in common. We are ALL human beings and we ALL have families. When did we as a society decide that someone standing up for what they believe in makes them lower than anyone else. Tell that past protestors who had the courage to stand up instead of being a follower and a "yes" man that corporate America has expected all of us to become while they continue to take from the working man and woman to line their own fat pockets

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 12, 2008 at 10:46 PM
I hope everyone who thinks it's good for someone to get hit by a car loses someone close to them by the very same means. Maybe when they are panhandling at an intersection or something "stupid" like our strike? An eye for an eye as the bible says, right? That is just plain horrid to think it's ok to hit someone with a vehicle. And they say it's only the union that is a bunch of slack-jawed dopes, that definitely sounds a little different now.

Posted by: Donna Location: Salina on Aug 12, 2008 at 10:45 PM
What does Hawker Want!! They have no help working, I would not buy anything until the regular people are back. Each day Hawker loses millions which could have settled this strike days ago. Open your eyes Hawker... The more time the more money you lose which could have been what the workers wanted.. Corporate America is greedy.. Have to compare you to Walmart.. Your acting just like them.. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hang in thre strikers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you crossers stop hitting the walkers!!!!!!

SO HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT BEFORE THE UNION OR HBC DECIDE TO TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!!!!

Posted by: Theresa Location: douglass, aircraft worker on Aug 12, 2008 at 10:38 PM
I have worked aircraft all my life, even at HBC, now @ another, but, I don't care who you are, why is there always violence?? The strikers are just going after what they deserve. You didn't complain when Cessna got there great contract. If they wouldn't of don't you imagine they would of been walking too ? YES !!! If you want to complain then go across seas and see how bad it is there and then ask yourself if our jobs are worth fighting for. So yes to the union, go Hawker Beechcrafters. Proud of ya.....

Posted by: Eric Location: Wichita on Aug 12, 2008 at 10:30 PM
If Beechcraft workers think they're mistreated and can't get a fair break, why don't they go to the OTHER companies in town and work for them and their superior contract? I'd take that contract offer where I'm working right now. And if a pedestrian steps in front of a moving car in the absence of a traffic control device, it's not the driver's fault. Accidents happen, the world's an imperfect place...thin the herd.

I absolutely understand why these people decided to strike, however, they should not place themselves in danger walking in front of jumpy workers trying to enter the plant. Some of the people are just terrified of not being able to get by without a paycheck and would really rather not be crossing. Their nerves are shot and it's just not smart to step in front of, sit on, or lean on their cars.

Posted by: little but loud Location: Wichita on Aug 12, 2008 at 09:46 PM
For all you blanks you keep saying we should be thankful and happy for what we aircraft workers make and I wish I could make that. I only have one question for you. Why don't you? HBC, Cessna, etc they are hiring so go out and apply and quit your gripping!!!

Posted by: Hawker Wife Location: Kansas on Aug 12, 2008 at 09:40 PM
Support the strikers or not, that is your freedom of choice, just like it is their freedom of choice to be on strike. But above all these are human beings and in NO way deserve to be hit by a car!!!! Until you have worked in the conditions that they work in or have to walk in their shoes, will you have room to talk about what they are fighting for. You need to understand they are standing up for what they believe in. Didn't your mothers ever tell you that "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all"? Maybe you all need to remember this!!!!!!!!!STAND STRONG UNION MEMBER!!!!!!! Hawker Wife(who fully supports my striking HBC worker)

While I don't agree with hurting other people I do have to say it does serve them right if they don't want to get hurt get the !!!! out of the way. We are just trying to support our familys. The contract was fair and that is why I am at work. So get out of my way and you will ot end up on your butt.

Posted by: Advice on Aug 12, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Look both ways before walking the WALK OF SHAME! Maybe you should join your fellow strikers and go lay under the shade or sit on the cooler and have yourself a popsicle. It's much safer there.

Glad someone got hit by a car? What is wrong with you? How can ANY of you say that its ok to hit people!?! You don't know if they were "playing" in the street. Most likely they are just walking the gate like everyone else is. BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER! You can't tell me its their fault for getting hit! You can't tell me that they deserved it! You are probably the type of people that say "With the way she is dressed, she deserved what she got". You make me sick with your immature, self centered, mindless drivel.

It's hard to believe that people can be as ignorant as cab supporter. I don't work for Hawker, but I have read enough about the plight of their employees, to know that they have been lied to and ripped off more than any other aircraft company in town. Scabby needs to do his homework before popping off about things he knows nothing about. Strikes are a last resort. It's something you have to do when left with no other alternative.

Unions are outdated, while you lot are out there pounding the pavement for $130.00 a week, yipee, your union folks are still collecting their big fat checks and benefits, and what do you have except late bills, and bunions. How about "she's dressed like that so she had it coming"? It's that type of backwards thinking that make Kansans look like idiots! By law, we have the right to "hold" a scab for 10 seconds. TEN SECONDS doesn't cause people to flip out and run over other people! Its NOT the victims fault that these people are so stressed that they might get fired any second for any reason! Its NOT the victims fault that people lack common decency! I hope some nut that thinks you're such an idiot that you deserve to be ran over, NEVER gets away with it.
