Congresswoman Nancy Boyda is refusing help from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

And she's pushing Republican rival Lynn Jenkins to do the same thing with the GOP counterpart in the 2nd District race.

But Jenkins doesn't seem likely to do it.

Boyda is seeking a second term in the 2nd District, which covers all or part of 26 counties in eastern Kansas. She's portrayed herself as independent of the national Democratic Party.

To that end, Boyda asked the Democratic committee not to spend $1.2 million on advertising in her race.

Now she wants Jenkins to ask the same of the National Republican Campaign Committee.

But Jenkins says voters should be free to sort out messages from various groups.
