School Shooting Plot Suspects Held Over Weekend

April 22 - A judge in Kansas has ordered another 72 hours' detention for five teens arrested in an alleged Columbine-like shooting plot, but they could be freed if they post bond. The judge set bail at $500,000 each. Another hearing is scheduled Monday.

The boys, ages 16 to 18, were arrested Thursday, the anniversary of the Columbine massacre. Attorney General Phill Kline says he'll decide early next week whether to charge the five and whether to do so as juveniles or adults.

Some students say they doubt the boys intended to carry out the threat. They say it's not surprising that authorities found guns in one suspect's bedroom because youths in rural Kansas often have access to hunting weapons. But Superintendent David Walters says he has no reason to doubt the judgment of the sheriff's office, which "believes it is the real thing."
