Slattery Outlines Proposal For Earmark Changes Save Email Print

Democratic Senate candidate Jim Slattery is proposing a one-year moratorium on funding earmarks in budget legislation.

Slattery outlined a proposal Friday for addressing earmarks, which set aside money in the federal budget for specific projects.

Slattery says the practice of using earmarks has gotten out of hand and helped balloon the federal budget deficit. He says a moratorium will give Congress a chance to reform the budgeting process.

The former congressman is running against Republican Sen. Pat Roberts.

Roberts spokeswoman Molly Haase says Slattery's proposals are redundant. She noted that Roberts discloses the earmarks he has obtained for projects in Kansas.

How is Slatterly going to get all his fellow Democrats to do this. Presidents have tried to get line item veto to stop this and failed. Republicans have tried to stop earmarks before but was voted down by Democrats. He would have to take on his own party.

Roberts don't want to slow down the spend feast that is going on in Washington. I'm glad the GOP has cut all the waste the last 8 years. $$$$$$$$$$ I don't support either party they all need voted out.

Why not make the moratorium permanant? I'll tell you why. Then Slatterly would not be able to pay back all his buddies that have helped fund his campaign with earmark spending in coming years.
