The Matching Funds goal has been met and $100,000 is headed to Chapman, KS to help with tornado relief.
The disastrous results of the tornado that struck Chapman, KS on June 11, 2008 has received much local attention. Once again the people of the Salina area community have reached deeply into their hearts and pockets and came to the aid of neighbors in need.
Great Plains Manufacturing, the Solomon Corporation, Green Lantern, Salina Vortex and Pepsi Bottling of Salina joined together to create a Matching Fund of $37,500 that would result in doubling the amount of money donated to the fund by the general public by August 3rd.
Immediately an anonymous donor added another $12,500 to the matching dollars making $50,000 available to match public donations. According to Bud DeArvil, spokesman for Green Lantern, “The public responded, hit the matching-funds goal and now $100,000 will be divided between Chapman USD 473 and the city of Chapman.”
The donation will be made at an all-school General Assembly on Monday August 18, 2008 at 9:45 AM. Representatives of USD 473 and the city of Chapman will be on hand to receive the donation. “We had hundreds of one dollar, five dollar and ten dollar donations. There were also some $500 donations, $1,000 donations and even an individual $5,000 donation”, DeArvil said.
The city of Chapman and USD 473 are grateful to the citizens of Salina and north central Kansas, the five matching-donor businesses, the anonymous donor, the Greater Salina Community Foundation, and to Pat Foster, General Manager of the three Salina Rocking-M Radio stations who was instrumental in initiating the idea of the Matching Fund campaign.
