Lawsuit Claims Town is Unsafe

April 7 - Dee Winter and Rebecca McNeish are living with multiple sclerosis. They say it's particularly hard to live with in Winfield. Winter and McNeish aren't alone. The Kansas Disability Coalition is suing the city of Winfield for what attorney David Calvert calls continuing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The lawsuit alleges almost two dozen specific violations, ranging from the lack of curb ramps for wheelchairs to entire facilities being inaccessible. City attorney Susan Selvidge says the lawsuit is off base. She says the city has made a good faith effort to comply with the ADA.

Attorneys for both sides say they don't want this case doesn't go to trial. They hope they can come to an agreement relatively soon and start making the town safe for everyone.
