Just months after a sales tax hike came to an end in Sedgwick County, One County Commissioner wants to put another proposal in front of voters.

Commissioner Kelly Parks said he will bring up the idea of an 18-month, countywide one cent sales tax for discussion at a staff meeting tomorrow.

Parks would use the money to pay for expansion of the Sedgwick County Jail, fund the aviation tech center at Jabara Airport and on other expansion needs.

Under Parks' plan, the tax hike would have to go to a public vote, and he would make sure the resolution would include language that if the sales tax were approved, the county would promise not to raise property taxes for the next ten years.

Funds for the jail expansion were left out of the County's proposed budget.
