The final push to figure out which casino will make a home in Sumner county is underway as the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board held a meeting in Belle Plaine.
"We knew that this was going to be a long process and that there's a lot of information to digest. But I think everybody is cooperating and giving us good information," review board member Matt All said.
Harrah's and Penn took the stage first, both pushing the benefits of their casinos, such as bringing thousands of jobs to the area, which supporters say they see as a major plus.
"I'm looking forward to the fact that it's going to open up job opportunities for the community and the fact that there are going to bring in revenue for the state," casino supporter John Weaver said.
For others, the meeting brought frustration.
"They've been told 'no' in every way possible and they're still trying to ram it own our throats," casino opponent Jackie Farnsworth said.
"No matter what statistics they throw around, it is divided," casino opponent Emily Davis said.
The board said they will have to consider the opponents' frustrations in their decision.
"We have always felt that it was important for the public to know exactly what we were thinking," All said.
The board has two more meetings to hear presentations in the coming weeks, but first, there's one more day in Belle Plaine with a presentation from Marvel Gaming and opinions from the residents.
Both Harrah's and Penn officials said they would be able to open by 2010 if chosen. The review board will have to make their final decision on which casino will come to Sumner county by next month.
