A local fire has taken the life of a 2-year-old boy. It happened Saturday morning around 9:30 in the 400 block of North Erie, near Central and Hillside.
The boy was trapped inside the house when firefighters arrived. His parents had not been able to get inside to save him. Firefighters struggled to get in and found the boy just inside the front door. He was rushed to the hospital but it was too late.
The boys name has not yet been released. Investigators believe the fire started because the child was playing with a lighter.
