Lawmaker Admits to Having an Abortion
February 23 - A Kansas lawmaker makes a stunning confession during debate over a proposal to crack down on abortion clinics.
House Republican Brenda Landwehr is known for her stance against abortion. On Wednesday while the house was debating a clinic licensing bill, Landwehr took the floor to argue for singling out abortion clinics for special state oversight. She revealed she once had an abortion.
Landwehr argued that abortion traumatizes women and told the members of the house, "I live with that pain every single day because I killed a baby."
The bill would create special regulations for clinics where abortions are performed. The House rewrote it to include clinics of all kinds that do surgery requiring sedation. The clinic bill passed the House by one vote. It will now go to the Senate.
