A special education teacher's aide from East High School is in jail on drug charges.
Police arrested the aide along with another woman in the 200 block of north Athenian Monday night.
Police say the 61 year old aide and the other woman were found with heroine, illegal amounts of valium and loritabs.
School officials say the woman has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
While school officials would not comment on camera, they say she worked at the school about six and a half hours a day, doing paperwork for the teachers. They say she had very little contact with the East High school special ed students.
Administrators did background checks on the woman when she began working for the district in 1991. But KAKE News has learned she was arrested in 1997 on shoplifting charges and traffic warrants.
Formal charges have not been filed against the woman at this time. Charges could be filed either Wednesday or Thursday.
East High administrators have not talked with students about the arrest, because of the woman's limited interaction with the students.
