Every year a million U.S. employees lose workdays because of repetitive motion injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome. Others end up with health problems like eyestrain and back pain. These injuries all result from desk jobs.

It may not require heavy lifting, but sitting at a desk all day can be a hazardous job. It's taken its toll on Wichita Wrangler's office manager Dave Harris. He says he's noticed over the past few years his vision has decreased. He attributes it to working on computers and reading small print.

Wesley Medical Center occupational therapist Tim Barker says desk injuries can add up and become serious over time.

  • To keep health problems away, experts offer these tips:
  • Take micro-breaks away from your desk.
  • For every hour you work, take two or three minutes to get your eyes off the computer screen.
  • Do some basic stretches to get your blood flowing again.
