Investigation Sparks Shootout With Suspects

January 13 - A federal investigation ends with two men shot and an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent hurt. Investigators are still trying to figure out just how many shots were fired and who did the shooting. It happened Friday afternoon in south Wichita at the intersection of Meridian and McCormick.

Three people ended up in the hospital. Two suspects were shot and an ATF agent was hit by a car. It all started in north Wichita near 13th and Vista. ATF agents were in an unmarked car following suspects in a Lincoln Towncar. When the suspect vehicle pulled into a gas station at McCormick and Meridian, one agent got out of the car and started talking to the suspects. The suspects allegedly got back in their car and drove right into the agent.

While the ATF agents on the scene waited for back-up, the injured agent fired his gun at the suspects. They then took off to a dead end street. One of the suspects was arrested. Two others were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The area around the intersection was shut down for several hours while officers searched the scene for evidence. The incident is still under investigation.
