The Butler County Commission approved a
conditional use permit tonight for a proposed
electricity-generating wind farm.
But members voted against a permit for another wind farm in
southeast Kansas.
O-K'd was Elk River Wind Farm's application for a project about
three miles south of Beaumont.
Denied was an application from Kansas Wind Power to build near
Leon.
Four property owners are involved in the Elk River project. It
would encompass about eight-thousand acres and potentially include
up to 100 wind turbine generators.
Co-developers are H-M-H Energy Resources of Larkspur, California
and Greenlight Energy, which would own the project.
