At least 10 tornadoes touched down across the state throughout the past day.

At about 8 p.m. last night, a tornado touched down near Oberlin in Decatur County. The Decatur Emergency Management Office reported some homes and businesses were damaged across the county. There are no reports of injuries. Several shelters are open for victims.

There was more storm damage in WaKeeney in Trego County. A possible tornado may have touched down, but Trego County Emergency Management officials said straight line winds damaged several buildings on the outskirts of the town.

The winds ripped off the roof of the senior center, blew out windows at the high school, toppled bleachers at the KOA Campgrounds, and downed several trees.

In Sheridan County, the emergency management director there said at least one home was destroyed. Several other houses and businesses were damaged near Selden and Hoxie.

There were several power outages at one point, but most residences have the power back. Only some rural residents are without power.

Power lines came down in Sedgwick County. At one point during the night, more than 5,000 Westar customers were without power. That number is down to about 350.

No injuries were reported in the storms.

That was one of the scariest days in my life i would have to say!!!!!!! A friend and I went to drive around to see if there was any damage and we were about five blocks from my house with a basement, when all of a sudden the sky gets really black and the tornado siren goes off. SCARY!!!

Anyone planning to go out and chase possible tornadoes in Kansas today should avoid Highway 156 between Great Bend and Larned. There is a LOT of road construction on Highway 156 with pilot cars. Expect long delays on Highway 156. Of course you'd be smart to take cover if threatening weather approaches rather than go out sightseeing for tornadoes.
