A 16 year-old boy from Medicine Lodge is recovering in a hospital after he crashed his car during a high-speed pursuit with a Harper County Sheriff's Deputy Friday night.

The crash happened east of Highway 160 near the intersection of NW 50th Rd. The highway patrol says there were three teenagers in the car that was fleeing the sheriff's deputy.

When the Chevy Camaro came to a railroad crossing, the driver lost control and flipped the car. Two 15 year-old's and a 16 year-old boy were inside. None were wearing their seat belts.

The two 15 year-old's are reported to have minor injuries, while the 16 year-old was critically hurt.

KAKE News is not releasing the boy's names due to their ages.

To all of you who gave POSITIVE comments, THANK YOU! 1st of all, the 16 yr old was NOT the driver. The car was stolen and my son didn't know this at the time. Now before you negative perfect people start saying "yeah right", look at ALL the facts before you start putting in your 2 cents. When his friend (passenger) asked him if he wanted a ride home he didn't think anything was wrong because his friens mom has a car just like the one he rode in. When he found out he immediately asked to be let out but the 15 yr old driver ignored my son and then the cops began chasing them. I am a strong believer of wearing a seatbelt but I question if he should of worn his that night. Thank GOD for his protection on these boys. My son come home the very next day. He is doing great. Thank you all again for your prayers. And to the rest of you, I will be praying for you. WE ALL FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.

why were they being chased? seems a little shortage of infomation here. was the reason they were being chased good enough to risk lives of others on the road?

I hope the boy is ok, and my thoughts and prayers go to the family. Increasing the age to drive will not do anything, because most people who run from the police are ADULTS. Yes, the boy did do wrong, but there is no reason to say he got what he deserved. Should he go to jail if he makes it through, YES! But we should not wish death on this kid. They all make mistakes, and we all did and still do.

First of all thank the ones that made the positive comments. But none of you were there so dont bad mouth any of these kids until you know the facts.I think the news media needs to find out more about what happened before they print it for everyone to see an by the way seat belts were involved or one of the kids probaly wouldnt be here with us right now. (Editors note: The KHP crash log lists that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts.)

Age has nothing to do with ignorance. If you run from the Police, you made that choice and its YOUR fault

Be responsible for your actions. Deal with the consequences of your actions. Take your punishment, whatever it IS. Need to ask why was the KID RUNNING FROM THE COPS?

I hope the boy will be ok, and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this time. Uping the driving age is not going to do any good, because more ADULTS run from the police then younger ones.

Ok first of all yeah they say "16 year olds are the leading cause" and "They are soo stupid" but that is not true. 16 year olds are very watchitive of the road and actually some are scared of cops. Well this guy must been scared or something but he is not stupid or anything like that. I hope all is ok. Prayers to all family members of all these teens. Im glad no one was killed.

..."while the 16 year-old was critically hurt." Prayers to the boy and family. Don't you folks think this is where the focus should be right now? What if this were your son? Maybe the problem isn't with our laws, maybe the problem is with a society where a CHILD is critically injured and the public comments are hate filled. The boy did wrong, but you all were perfect at 16.

Again we are reminded of a need to increase the driving age for young people, and for the need to consistently use seat belts. Will our lawmakers take positve action. NOT likely!

At 16 he should have know better than to run from Police. The parents didn't make the decision for him, HE did it himself. A little JAIL time would be a good way to start, instead of a slap on the hand. He put others lives in danger for his STUPID act of running from police.

Stupid is as stupid does. Glad the punk is finally off the road.

I can hear it now, some parent is going to be blaming the Sherrif because their little boy didn't know any better than to run from the police. I wonder what else he was doing wrong that he felt he had to flee.
