Boeing plans to implement a tobacco ban on the property. The ban doesn't just target smoking, however, but includes any and all forms of tobacco.

If Boeing goes tobacco free it'll mean no smoking, no chewing, no tobacco whatsoever once you cross that white line on to Boeing property.

Signs on Boeing's property indicate designated smoking areas, but will likely be gone by the end of the year. Employees won't be able to smoke or chew in any area of the property, including in their cars.

Chris: You are so talking out from the side of your neck. You probably don't even have this higher education that you are talking about. Looks like you're just one of those that was either fired or let go and you are just PO'd. Left on my own give me a break. You wish you left on your own. JEOLOUS!!!

Posted by: Chris Location: Wichita on May 22, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Contrary to what you lifers believe. Those of us with an education can find better employment. Boeing is notthe Holy Grail of job opportunities. I left on my own from Boeing for better pay and yes, better benefit package, including stock options and profit sharing. You keep punching that time clock. In the end, I will be able to smoke on work property and you will not. I win. And in the imortal words of Stuart Scott........BOOOOYAAAHHHH

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on May 21, 2008 at 09:02 PM
Chris: JEOLOUS!!! I should have known. Like I said it was your stupidity and ignorance that is keeping you at your low level job.

None of this crap matters! People can argure their opinions till they are doubling over and red in the face with rage, which is probably not much better for your health than smoking come to think of it. The bottom line is this is AMERICA land of the free. It makes me mad that just because smoking is unhealthy, that people feel they have the right to tell others not to do it. It is especially hypocritical in this modern age when every bleeding heart liberal idiot is preaching "toloerance" and moral relativity. So, I can be a Gay, satan worshipping, pro-death baby killer and be accepted; not to mention protected by law from harrassment but God Forbid I SMOKE! Bottom line is It's none of your business! It's none of the governments business and it's certainly none of the company's business. I, as an AMERICAN have the right to the pursuit of happiness. Smoking makes me happy, so therefore it is my constitutional right. All this policy is doing is making our breaks longer.

I spent my time at Boeing, I know how hard it isn't. There are more employees there that work while they are high than I have ever witnessed

Posted by: Chris Location: Wichita on May 21, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Your smack means nothing "Anonymous". Keep complaining about your jobs everytime a contract comes up. It shows the Greed and lack of work ethic. And the idea that you work your butts off made my morning, very humorous. I had to show that to everyone else in the offices on this floor.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on May 20, 2008 at 09:23 PM
Chris: How do you know what we do out here at Spirit/Boeing. We work our butts off out here if you don't know you need to just keep your mouth shut. We are not overpaid. It's too bad we have a world full of igonorance like you. Keep working the small company maybe you will get somewhere someday but with that attitude of yours you will be stuck at your small pidley company forever. You have no clue of what goes on out here at Spirit.

smokers take smoke breaks every 15 to 30 mins now they can help pull the work load its about time

Posted by: Chris Location: Wichita on May 19, 2008 at 01:18 PM
If you dont like it, go work elsewhere. But then you would actually work for a living and not be underworked and OVERPAID. Boeing and Spirit employees are more than compensated for no more than they do. Where else can someone with only a high school education ( if that ) make that much money? Shut up and work like the rest of us.

J:you are just as foolish as you sound. People like you are just a waste of good air when you speak. Please breathing good air what planet are you from. You will never breathe free air so don't blame the smokers for your igonorant way of thinking.

Hey there Bryan your answer is not too smart you see i am probably quite a bit older than you and have seen many a friend die who never smoke their entire life and dont go there with the second hand smake words cause that excuse does not work either and i have you know that almost all older people are paying their fair share for insurance coverage and also help pay for all illegals health care thru our taxes grow up

Posted by: Grace Location: Wichita on May 18, 2008 at 05:30 PM
you the goverment and state and city leaders who want too tell us what we can and cannot do dont have enough work too do so you draw big bucks for doing what you people think is best for us well america wake up tell them take the word ban and see how far they can ride on it

Posted by: fed up Location: wichita on May 18, 2008 at 01:49 PM
I am tired of the government, employers, and whiners telling me what i can and can not do. First, i have to wear a seat belt in a car that I AM making the payment on. If i don't want to wear a seat belt, i should have the right to choose to or not. Next, if I want to work at a good job, I can not smoke on their property. That is bad since you do have the choice to work there or not but it makes a hostile work enviroment with nicotine withdrawls. Finally, the whiners are whining about public places, ie restaurants and bars. Since it is a public place, there should not be a city wide ban since the owners are paying taxes for their establishment. Last time i looked we were in a place where we can choose to do things. It seems that we are being told what to do instead of having a choice. I AM FED UP WITH IT ALL!

It's amazing that the industries that produce products that spew the most toxins in our air and water are the same one's claiming "health" as their excuse to persecute smokers further. Scott's is another fine example of this hypocrisy, only worse as they don't allow employees to smoke on their own time in their own homes either. Boeing makes planes doesn't it? What do you think comes out of those planes in the air? Those particulates ARE in the air you breathe and end up in the water and soil. So all those in favor of boeing persecuting employees for enjoying a LEGAL and overtaxed product, should also be all over boeing to stop making products that poison your air. OH, that's right, you LIKE the planes as they make your life easier so poisoning everyone is perfectly acceptable then. Right? Clean Air? There is NO clean air and there is NO right to breathe clean air or any air for that matter. You cannot retain your freedom to choose while denying others the same.

Bryan, you are probably fat and drink. Pay your own insurance. Ban fat people and drinking !!! We shouldnt have to pay for all the second hand problems that comes with those 2 health hazards .

Posted by: Phil Location: Wichita on May 17, 2008 at 11:19 PM
If people don't like Boeing's rules then they can look for work elsewhere.

Posted by: bart on May 17, 2008 at 06:51 PM
It's obvious, they want more work done.

Posted by: bryan on May 17, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Grace, you are not banned from smoking. You are however banned from smoking at Boeing. So if you want to smoke I suggest you go work somewhere besides Boeing. You do still have a choice. I suggest a compromise though. How about if Boeing allows you to smoke in your car and does testing to determine who smokes and who doesnt. Then those who do smoke have to pay 100% of their own health insurance premium and Boeing pays nothing.

Posted by: Dee Location: Maine on May 17, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Tobacco is still legal. And smokers pay more than the Lions share of taxes yet are treated like lepers.Discrimination against smokers is ok ie seems. i believe people who discriminate against smokers would be the first to jump on the bandwagon of the next acceptable discrimination. www.smokersclubinc.com www.forces.org

Why do they care if their employees smoke in their cars? I love how corporations have a ton of ridiculous rules for their employees but none for their overpaid CEO's!

Posted by: Liberty Lost on May 17, 2008 at 10:26 AM
So Boeing pays for and insures the employees cars?

Posted by: Grace Location: Wichita on May 17, 2008 at 09:55 AM
Here We go again the use of the word BAN BAN We Now use that word in about every sentence keep using it in the good old US and soon we will be like some third world country, the city council should have to go there to live for few years then they would stop using the word BAN and send any of the people with them that agree with banning SMOKING

Posted by: AJ Location: Wichita on May 17, 2008 at 09:12 AM
This is stupid Your vechile is your own not Boeing's I hope people understand this is other of our rights taken away with the disquse of good for you .

Posted by: J Location: Wichita on May 17, 2008 at 08:29 AM
Thank you Boeing for making it possible for me to breath clean air--your freedom to smoke takes away my freedom to breath clean air and when your freedom affects my health you have no freedoms--are you willing to pay my medical bills that your freedom to smokes causes my health or will you sue the tobacco companies when your health goes bad because of your FREEDOM--it won't be your freedom then will it--it'll be someone else's fault for you having your freedom! I hope all the other workplaces have the guts to stand up for our clean air and our good health because the city of Wichita doesn't.

Posted by: Pete Location: Seattle on May 16, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Boeing has every right to ban tobacco from their property. And it's not as if smoking or tobacco use don't cause sickness and loss of productivity among Boeing employees.
