Governor Sebelius has issued her third veto of a bill allowing two coal-fired power plants in southwest Kansas. The bill's supporters included economic development projects in the measure, but Sebelius vetoed it and said legislative leaders acted "recklessly."

Included in the bills Governor Sebelius signed were regarding sexual assault victims and penalties for aiding escape from prison.

now what about the rate increases that westar wants to use to build 4 more coal plants in northeast kansas?

The Govenor did the right thing in vetoing the Coal Plants. Now we need to get busy and pass a true Net Metering bill, an agressive RPS bill, then work our tails off to catch-up with Texas, Colorado, and Iowa in attracting the green jobs in the Solar and Wind Industry. At the end of 2007, Texas had 4300 MW of Wind deployed to 364 MW in Kansas and T. Boone Pickens has ordered wind turbines to develop a 4000 MW wind farm. Texas is rated 2nd in wind potential and Kansas is ranked 3rd. In Colorado, Vestas is building a blade plant and a tower plant which together will employ 1050. However, because of Colorado just passing a true Net Metering bill, the Govenor of Colorado is saying that bill will help create a few thousand jobs primarily in the solar industry. I could not find one editorial in a Colorado newspaper saying that since the power would be purchased by Colorado that the Sunflower Coal Plants planned for Holcom should be built in their state for economic development reasons.
