A large -- and messy -- flock of
buzzards has taken to roosting high atop some sycamore trees in a
Clay Center yard.

Homeowners have grown tired of the mess and other problems the
birds create, so a Kansas State University wildlife expert arrived
last night with a tool to help local police get rid of the big
black birds.

The Pyro-Technic gun emits a blast and a whistle designed to
scare the birds away.

Kansas State wildlife specialist Charlie Lee said the buzzards
just chose a spot they like, and keep coming back.

Police said they'll try the solution for a few more nights this
week.

As many as 30 buzzards have gathered in the trees at a time.
