Officials say an elderly Hutchinson woman is dead after fire swept her apartment.

Firefighters said the woman was found in an apartment Monday afternoon after a fire blew out a front window. The victim's name was not immediately released, but officials believe she lived in the low-income apartment operated by New Beginnings.

Fire Chief Kim Forbes said the flames were contained to the single ground-floor apartment, and that all of the other units in the complex were evacuated.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
