Bomb Scare

Jackie Sturgeon didn't know how close her family was from a potential danger.

She and her husband Brandon recently bought a house near 13th and Topeka. This Saturday they had termite inspector John Kaiser come over and perform a routine inspection.

Kaiser didn't find any termites, but he did find something he thought was cause for alarm. In a crawl space under the house he uncovered a stash of WWII artifacts, including a grenade and a bomb.

When Kaiser showed Sturgeon his find she immediately called the police.

Emergency workers and a specialty bomb squad from McConnell quickly surrounded the house and blocked off the neighborhood. After inspection they determined the grenade was safe but the bomb was still active. Crews spent most of the afternoon under the house working to deactivate it safely.

The Sturgeon's say they are stunned by the find. They plan on searching the rest of the house to make sure nothing else turns up.
