Gambling Laws

It's something many people may be guilty of, wagering a few bucks on a sporting event or a game of poker. This may seem like innocent fun, but gambling for money is illegal in the state of Kansas.

A group of Wichitans found that out the hard way Wednesday night when police made a gambling bust at a home in the 1500 block of North Belmont. At least a dozen people were arrested and a search warrant turned up about $5,000 worth of gambling materials.

Attorney Warner Eisenbise says a felony offense for gambling is very rare in Kansas, but it is possible. He says if you are caught you could face as much as six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

The Wichita Police say they only make about four or five arrests a year for gambling.
