Police make an unusual arrest Tuesday evening. A woman in the 3700 block of E. Clark heard someone break into her garage. When she went to check on the noise, she says she found a man sexually assaulting her four year old female rottweiler.

Police arrested Josh Coman, 20, for aggravated burglary of a home and criminal sodomy. Coman pleaded guilty last year to a similar crime involving a dog in Reno County. Police say the state's new Magnum's Law, designed to protect animals from abuse, does not cover sexual assaults. However, state law prohibits sexual contact between humans and animals.

Authorities say Coman knew the family of the dog he reportedly attacked. Investigators plan to present their case to the district attorney later this week.

" Then you see him wandering through your neighborhood, and the next thing you know he has a hold of your dog (or your child)" BS, the guy has a sexual attraction to ANIMALS not children, the two arent even remotely connected, he is a "zoophile" while child rapists are pedophiles. "what about the diseases that can be transfered from animals to humans? " What about them? I'd worry a lot more about the hundreds of diseases you can catch from other people just being in the same room, touching the doorknob or kissing. Ive never once caught a thing from a dog. The thing is, this goes on a lot more frequently than people would ever suspect, this guy just happened to be caught- the one in a thousand and jail will not "cure" him. I suggest people learn what zoophilia is and what it isnt by reading the lengthy article on this on wikipedia.org What amazes me is how people claim abuse but then go eat a STEAK- talk about hypocracy there!

what about the diseases that can be transfered from animals to humans? makes ya wonder how so many diseases get into the human world?

I really don't see why you'd post that guy's photo. He's already got himself a host of problems.

I am in law enforcement and I commend KAKE for running the story. It is a sick world out there, so why would we want to turn a blind eye. The publice has to be informed. I have to ask the mom, if she is so concerned about her kids and their well being, why are they up late enough to hear the late news?

I'm suprised that this didnt happen in St. George

Posted by: Tamera on Feb 22, 2008 at 07:27 AM
I do agree that this is a very disturbing story. However to claim that this is "the gayest person in the world" just proves extreme ignorance on your part. Being in love with another human being and physically assaulting an animal are vastly different! I am glad this story aired as we all need to be informed members of the public. It is our duty as humans to watch out for one another(man and animal), trust me if I see someone in your garage, your house, heck, your yard that I do not know I am going to let you know and call the police if necessary. (whether or not he is with your dog) I hope this also sheds a little bit of light on the animal abuse issue that is so overlooked, this is an extreme case but this man is very ill and in need of help. Then again he he was in need of help before his first offense. The system and he have failed us now twice, how are things going to be handled this time before his offenses become more violent? This is a scream for help....what will be done?

Posted by: elvis Location: wichita on Feb 22, 2008 at 06:59 AM
I say we take this obviously disturbed low life to the animal shelter and let the male rottweiler's have ther way with him. At least that way the dogs can create there own jutice.

The first execution in these United States was carried out in 1642 against one Thomas Granger for beastiality. He was hanged for his behavior. In 1683, Denmark passed a law making both homosexuality and bestiality punishable by burning. In 1711, it was decided that those convicted should be garroted as well as burned. In England in 1821, the law read: "Any person, who commits the crime of sodomy, either with a man, or with any animal, and is found guilty, will be put to death." In 1962, Illinois became the first American state to revise it's criminal code along the lines suggested in The Model Penal Code (devised by American Law Institute). Specifically, oral genital contacts, and anal intercourse between consenting adults in private and sexual acts with animals are no longer criminal offenses. Connecticut, New York and Kansas have also made some revisions in this area. According to this article the fine is now less than one year. "Slippery Slope", isn't it.

Those of you griping that this shouldn't have been aired, think about this for a minute. Say you never heard of this person or what he has done. The media didn't report the story. Then you see him wandering through your neighborhood, and the next thing you know he has a hold of your dog (or your child). Then the news came out that this guy had a prior record of sexual assault and beastiality on more than one occasion. Would you be complaining because the media never said anything and didn't warn the public of what this person was capable of? I bet so.

The world is entirely too big to keep anything taboo. It just so happens that this sort of thing exists in my town. The fact is there are people in society the do these horrific things. Lock 'em all up and throw away the key!

I understand that this is very disgusting...In fact makes me sick for the day!!!Good thang I already had my lunch...Buttttt The man deserves to be humilated on public television, if the law does not require to have the man(boy or whatever he may be!!!)Punished severly!!!The same rites should go for animals as does human beings!!!!DOGS HAVE FEELINGS TOO!!!!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 21, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Yes, this is indeed a disturbing story, but its reality, it happend, and I for one would rather be informed of things that are going on rather than be blind to it. The world is partly the way it is today because of people who choose to ignore things and let them happen without aknowledging them.

Castrate the sicko!! Who's child will be next??

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 21, 2008 at 12:27 PM
to all you people who think this isnt newsworthy is wrong. lst of all this is animal abuse so that is news that the public needs to know. the children and animals of this world have no voice, but the animals have even less of a voice so the animal lovers of the world need to speak out for these helpless victums. this guy is beyond sick and i agree if he will do this to a dog then he would probably do this to a child. this isnt any different then reporting of a child molestation. get over it , its news!

Posted by: Tina Location: Derby on Feb 21, 2008 at 12:27 PM
I believe that airing this was a good idea. We have some very sick people that live in this world. What kind of a perverted indivdual would take advantage of a helpless animal that has no defense against his sick and demented fantisies. They should do to him what he did to the dog ten times over.

Posted by: MEEE Location: Garden City on Feb 21, 2008 at 10:53 AM
This is by far the sickest most perverted thing I have ever heard of. And our court systems aren't any better. Maybe this time he will get the help he needs.

Well...i guess if he prefers dogs, we dont have to worry about him reproducing.

you know rottweilers are hard to resist when they look at you like that.

Posted by: Kay Location: Andover on Feb 21, 2008 at 10:07 AM
I'm angry that you would use this story as news. There surely had to be something more humanitarian and newsworthy than beastiality. As a psychologist and teacher who works with kids WHY would you make this the most important news piece of both evening news casts? You've lost your minds and sense of responsibility to your watchers. Shame on you! +++++ Editor's note - In an effort to clear up some confusion on KAKE's role in this story - KAKE News only ran the story once - at 10pm. It did not air on earlier newscasts - purposefully so. When it did air at 10pm, it lasted for less than :15. - Editor

Suzan, your children are 9 and 11?? In this day and age, trust me when I say that they have heard far worse at school from friends.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on Feb 20, 2008 at 11:20 PM
In this sick world we live in I was not shocked to hear of this happening. I was however, disgusted that the report was aired on television. To keep showing the dog walking around and then the smiling face of the pervert who sodomized it...I just wanted to throw up. Let's use a little discretion people! I don't normally watch the news and now I know why. Unbelievable. ++++++ Editor's Note - KAKE News only aired this story at 10pm - a :15 story with the suspect's mugshot. It did not air on any other KAKE newscast.

Posted by: Kelly Location: Wichita on Feb 20, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Suzan, do you frequently watch the news with your children? Do you talk to them about the war and people being killed? The five or so homicides that have happened in Wichita so far this year? This is a serious question. Yeah, this story is sick...but there are bad things on the news every day - you cannot guarantee every time you sit down with your children to watch it, there's not going to be something questionable. And chances are, at least your older daughter has heard sick jokes about this kind of thing at school. I'm only 20...I remember learning about MOST things from kids at school before ever hearing about them from the parents, news, whatever. And I watched channel 10 at one time today and 12 at another. Both stations used the story.

Posted by: Suzan Location: larned ks on Feb 20, 2008 at 09:48 PM
I THINK THAT THIS SUBJECT IS VERY UNTASTEFUL AND SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN AIRED ON THE NEWS! lets use our discretion and consider what may or may not be suitable for young ears. I was sitting on the couch with my 9yr old and 11 yr old daughters and before i had enough time to tell my girls to go upstairs-they heard EXACTLY what happened to that dog! This is not something I should have to explain to them! This society is twisted and I try hard to monitor what my children watch, I guess this is the last time I will ever tune into KAKE NEWS. You guys may enjoy talking to your young kids about a man who is having sex with a dog, but I dont. I am very disgusted and disturbed, and you all should be more cautious and remember that it's not always about "who reports it first" There are times when discretion is needed and this was one of them. Never in my childhood did I ever hear of a man having sex with an dog, especially on the news, and I'm only 34. This is why the world is the way it is!!

Posted by: Fido Location: Derby on Feb 20, 2008 at 08:45 PM
This makes me SICK. WHAT is wrong with people? Keeping a big dog like that in a garage!! ..fence the yard .. build an outdoor kennel .. but the GARAGE?? That's no way to treat a dog!

Posted by: kden Location: east ict on Feb 20, 2008 at 08:37 PM
wow a 4 yr old rottweiller....maybe the dog is in love too.....talk about your odd couple...this is about as sick as that man that had sexy time with that horse in seattle ..he died...the man not the horse !!
