$5 million, that's the price tag for major improvements to Wichita's riverside parks.

Oak Park, North Riverside, specifically Park Villa, and Central Riverside Park, will get major face-lifts if the city approves a new renovation project Wednesday.

Park officials believe this $5 million plan is just what Riverside needs.

In Oak Park, the lily pond and stone arch will be rehabilitated. In Park Villa, the plan calls for new parking and revitalizing the pond. Money for the projects will come out of the city's Capital improvement program.

It will take about 12 to 18 months to transform the park, and city council members are expected to approve the plan Wednesday.
