Deadly Pursuit

Nov. 25 - A driver running from police hits and kills a woman. Then a family is held hostage before police arrest the man suspected in a deadly pursuit.

Police were trying to pull the driver over when the deadly crash happened. The pursuit ended with a standoff at a nearby mobile home.

It all started at the intersection of 47th Street south and Seneca, when a sheriff's deputy tried to pull over 22-year-old Gregory Berry on a registration violation.

The driver took off. The deputy didn't have a chance to get back to his car, before the driver was out of sight.

About a minute later, deputies say Berry ran a four-way stop sign at 47th and Meridian.

Vicki Brown, 55, was crossing at the time, and deputies say Berry smashed into her car. Brown died at the scene.

But troopers say Berry kept going, running into a nearby neighborhood.
They say he randomly picked a house, and held five people hostage.

One of the people in the home told KAKE News that he had no idea it was even a hostage situation. He says Berry was out of breath and scared, but no one in the home was threatened.

One of the residents was able to call 911. Troopers say they later had to remove Berry from the home by force. No one in the home was hurt.
