Deadly Police Pursuit
October 6 - It started with a frantic call to police, and ended with one man dead. Now Wichita investigators are taking a closer look at how they handled the situation, after a deadly police pursuit.

The police pursuit started late Tuesday night, after a domestic violence call.

When police arrived at the home in the 5900 block of East Bayley, 42-year-old Jeffrey Drechsler was leaving the home in his truck with the headlights off.

Dreschler drove east on Lincoln with about 5 officers in pursuit. He then turned south on Rock, heading toward the intersection of Rock and Pawnee at about 50 miles an hour.

Witnesses say the truck went through the red light at the intersection. It hit a car, spun around, flipped over then hit a telephone pole.

29-year-old Amy Robbins was driving that car. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Drechsler was originally thought to only have suffered a broken leg, but he died at the hopistal from internal injuries.

Now police are conducting an investigation into whether or not officers adhered to the department's chase policy.
