On Hatteberg's People, how many times have you looked around your town and wondered what used to be on a particular corner? Well, Steve Harmon and Steve Conard don't have to wonder anymore, at least in Hutchinson. Several years ago they began collecting historic pictures of the Salt City and now, their passion for the past has turned into a passion of the present.

(Steve Harmon) "If there is something historical about something, we'll dig until we find what it was and how it happened."

(Steve Conard) "Over a thousand pictures that we have of downtown, there are still buildings we haven't found a photo of."

You might call Steve Harmon and Steve Conard 'history detectives'.

"It doesn't get any better than that."

They're out to nab any historic picture of Hutchinson that they can find.

(Steve Harmon) "There are times I've found a picture and have put myself in that photo."

(Steve Conard) "Through the photos we get to relive that portion of history and find out more about it."

The two 'Steve's' are obsessed with these aging pictures. Now they have turned their hobby of collecting historic photos into a side business.

(Steve Conard) "Because we know over time the originals are going to decay, so we're trying to digitize the complete collection so we can pull it up digitally and we use those in our 'history' talks."

They not only give presentations to groups, but sell at cost -- digitally reproduced photos of Hutchinson.

(Steve Harmon) "Actually the best part is finding the picture--it's just like Christmas for us."

(Steve Conard) "All that is gone now today." "Yep!"

What's fun is to take a walk with them downtown and look at how some Hutchinson corners have changed over the years.

(Steve Harmon) "That was the Commercial National Bank and that photo was taken about 1900 wasn't it?"
