Fourteen years ago, Carole Brown began living a life virtually free of technology in a remote part of the Kansas Flint Hills. No electricity, no running water, nothing that we take for granted in most homes today.
Instead she lived in a small one-room old cabin with mud and straw walls. She did this because she wanted to be 'one' with the land. To grow her own food and to listen to nature are her goals. But as time as gone by, and her Midwestern parents growing older, Carole is not sure she can continuing living this isolated existence.
Technology is needed in some parts of her life now, and she is not happy about it....but she is realistic. Her gardens haven't done well due to drought, grasshoppers and floods and the difficulty of the existence is great.
So, the question becomes, can you live the lifestyle you crave in a world of technology?
