Marquette, Kan. -- A few weeks ago I received a letter from a school teacher at Marquette Elementary School in Marquette, Kansas.
She told me about Brenda Graham who is the school secretary. She said this woman is incredible, the teachers love her, the kids love her, and the parents love her! What’s not to like? So I decided to visit.
“The job is different every day and I love the kids.” says Brenda.
In Marquette, the news hasn’t been good for the town’s only Elementary School. The school will close at the end of the year.
School secretary Brenda Graham has been here for 29 years.
Teacher Kristy Bergstrom says, “She’s just a little fire ball. She’s got a great sense of humor with the kids and the kids absolutely love her as a mom.”
"The kids are great, they are so kind to me.” says Graham.
“The staff is great and the kids just make you happy every day.”
“She is just like Radar in ‘Mash’, she’s always there to make me look good.” say Principal Darryl Talbot. “I never have to worry about things because she is just so on top of it.”
Well the only thing permanent about life is change, and as I told you at the beginning of the story, Marquette Elementary will be closing at the end of the year and what happens to Brenda, because she is a classified employee, that has yet to be decided.
We wish the teachers, the kids and everyone at Marquette Elementary the best.
