On Hatteberg’s People, recently I saw a video on ‘You Tube’ that had this young woman with an incredible voice. Her name is Krista Eyler from Overland Park. She called herself, ‘Funky Mama’. Ok, got my attention, who is she and ‘what’ is she doing.
That’s Krista Eyler, better known as ‘Funky Mama’ on one of her You Tube videos. Krista is also a mom, a former TV reporter, a singer-songwriter and loves to participate in musical theatre.
“I’ve been a singer my whole life.”
“And musical theatre is a part of my life I always put on the back burner. I thought I needed that ‘real’ job, insurance and all those good things.”
That’s the TV reporter job, which she was in Kansas City.
“I didn’t want to work every Christmas and Thanksgiving and every Kansas winter snowstorm that came my way.”
“For those of you who don’t know me yet, I’m funky mama and what I do is I write rock and roll for kids and their families.”
So ‘Funky Mama’ was born.
Utilizing her vast musical talents and her love for children, she performs high energy shows, like this one at Wonderscope in Kansas City.
“I want the music to be something they can enjoy together. Something they can move and groove to. Music is fun…Music is fun.
After the shows, she packs up and heads home…but nothing is ever easy...but it’s all part of Krista’s chaotic life.
“I still have the ‘mommy guilt’ and I’m sure a lot of the working mothers do of leaving the children.”
With three CD’s now out, with her latest being ‘Moo Juice’ she is well known to families in Northeast Kansas. She even performed at the White House Easter egg hunt when she was very pregnant.
“It’s really funny, we all acted like little kids, and we were all giggly about it.”
Then, at a recording session ---
Doing her work in a recording studio is OK, but she knows her life is with the kids.
“Pre-K kids are so willing to just give me love….”
“Until we meet again…..I’m Funky Mama everybody, have a great day.”
