Stay up-to-date with KAKE News:

On Hatteberg’s People, it is back to Greensburg. With all that is happening there – even a presidential visit --- but when the cameras are gone, and the excitement dies down, it is still up to the residents to make it all happen. Marion & Ella Mae Marrs are starting over again….at 80.

“The bad dream has already happened. Now we have good dreams ahead.”

“All right.”

There is optimism in Greensburg. The water tower is up, construction is ongoing, and exuberance is high.

“Right now, we are walking in our kitchen, the area where our new home will be, with the kitchen and dining room over here.”

Marion and Ella Mae Marrs already have a vision of the new home they will begin building in Greensburg this week.

“This is what makes it a reality.”

“I’m so used to cleaning that little motor home, I don’t know that I can handle a big house or not…(laugh)”.

A year ago they were living a nightmare. Between them, they lost three homes.

“But we’ll make it.”

Starting again, at nearly 80.

That was then, now a year later, they live in their motor home on the site of Ella’s old home. All that’s left of it is this concrete where the old garage was.

“I had flowers in this back yard and all down along the drive here…it took me 50 years to get them planted…but I can redo them.”

They spent the winter in South Texas deciding what to do…but they had to come back. Greensburg is home.

“We’re going to go right ahead and get back to living.”

So, at the corner of Iowa and Spruce in Greensburg this little story of two people who at nearly 80 begin again…

“We’re going to do a lot of things together. We’re just going to keep busy because there is just the two of us.”

They remember the past…but the concentrate on the future…and their life together…that even the power of a deadly tornado couldn’t destroy.

“True.”

“I think there is a scripture that says…’This too shall pass’. I just keep thinking about that and I know it has got to get better.”
