Fourteen-year-old Wichitan Alex East wants to own his own amusement park. In his basement, he's already putting his dreams to reality.

"My amusement park is called Land Adventure. It is a model amusement park. I have about fifteen rides."

"When I turn it on and light it up, it's really something that you have to see for yourself."

Each day when he comes home from his eighth grade classes at Wilbur Jr.High, Alex East has another world waiting for him.

It is here in his basement where he creates his own world of a miniature amusement park. "I decided that I would make a model of an amusement park and build stuff and see how it turns out."

It turned out pretty well.

"When I grow up and become an engineer, I want to not think that I'm working. I want to think that I'm playing and get paid for it."

For Alex - these aren't toys. They are very possibly his future job.

"Yeah, I'm thinking about KU engineering. I've heard that they have good engineering classes there."

Alex has it all planned out. After the degree, he'll design an amusement park. But he won't put his first one in Wichita.

"Because a few other theme parks haven't made it here. But I would be planning to come back if my first theme park was successful and I would build a second amusement park here in Wichita."

Now in case you are wondering, his amusement park is made from construction sets called K NEX.

"I'm really at my happiest when I'm doing this or when I'm going to a new amusement park. If you are going to be something when you grow up, you are going to have to work hard for it. And if you really like it a lot you are going to be able to work hard for it."
