As the drought continues, the water level at Cheney Reservoir continues to drop. Just how low is the lake?

Good question.

The reservior is more than 7 feet low. "It's never been this low since I have been here," says Park Ranger Mike Satterlee. "And talking to people who have been here for many years, they say the have never seen it this low."

One official with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks said she hadn't seen Cheney this low in 30 years.

The Marina shows the worst of the drought. Boat slips that are usually under water are on dry land. The cove boats would normally use to get gas at the marina is inaccessible.

Ranger Satterlee says the lake isn't losing water as fast as it was in the summer, but it's not gaining any water either. 'The Ninnescah at the north end feeds the lake. It's dry."

The Good news: one boat ramp is still usable and fishing spots are still accessible. Satterlee says lake levels would have to go down another foot or two for all of the boat ramps to close.
