We all like to save a little money, even when we don’t know we are saving it. On our Facebook page, a viewer asked, “Did the state sales tax go down recently?”

I’ll bet that most people pay no attention to sales tax rates. They do tend to go up and down over periods of time. But taxes are something most of us just accept, like death or long lines at the DMV.

But our Facebook buddy noticed something strange recently. It seemed like she was spending a little less. She wanted to know if the sales tax rate went down. And the answer is yes.

On July 1st, the state sales tax decreased. It went from 6.3 percent to 6.15 percent. So for every $100 you spend, you save 15 cents.

It’s not a lit of money saved. Even if you spend 20 grand on a car, you are only saving about $30. But that’s a half a tank of gas for that sweet ride you would otherwise not have.
