Viewer Kimberly Zimmerman wants to know, "Why is the city Police Chief appointed while the County Sheriff is an elected position?" Good question.
The answer is that the Kansas state statute requires that each county have a sheriff. Police chiefs are not required by law, but exist when a municipality decides to have one based on the needs of the community.
